Welcome Bikes

January 29, 2011

I spotted this little number resting on the lawn in a shop front in Cygnet. Obviously used as a magnet for cool folk who feel the pull of a healthy transport/fashion symbol in the front yard. Nice bikes = good business.

Just a little while ago the Tasman Bridge ramp upgrade was completed. I reckon most eastern shore commuters would be pretty stoked about this one. Top marks to the Tas gov and all involved.

Ridin to Summer Festivals

January 28, 2011

While I missed riding to the Falls festival this year due to a few to many night shifts leading up to it and the attraction of a free lift out there. I got my fix heading down to the Cygnet Festival a couple of weeks ago. Rad little ride from Taroona in around 4 or so hours taking it very easy and well worth it. Got absolutely soaked on the way down and then the sun came out in the arvo. Hurray.  Alice the travelling bicycle rider was heading down to who’d being staying in the shed following a link up through http://www.warmshowers.org/. Read the rest of this entry »

This goes on in Tasmania: Presenting a performance somewhere between a peddle powered light show and a cabaret act Georgie Marshall calls herself an Evolutionary and Bikey. Performing with the power of bicycles to blend a concoction and light up the paths of the evening. Madmoiselle yogic funk is bound to get you inspired to bust some moves and guilt free taste all the delights you desire.

You read it. I witnessed it at the Cygnet Folk Festival. They were planning two shows but only one went down. Rumours about that another is planned for the alley cat bar sometime in the future.

NEWS JUST IN: 11th FEB AT THE ALLEY CAT (Damn shame I gonna be away)

MONA BIKE PARKING = Wow..

January 28, 2011

If you rode out to the MONA Gallery Opening you would have been in for a big surprise. What a sight. I rode out along the bike track and had the most pleasant ride in ages. 10 or so km of beautiful bike track to peddle along with barely a road in site. Seems like heaps of other folk made the most of it too. Including a guy I saw riding no hands reading a book. Gotta love that level of competence.

Outa this world

December 4, 2010

Yes, I did take this photo. And yes it was definitely not in Hobart. Rumours abound that several HTH members raided the super profits account we’ve been generating from all this bike stuff and trundled off to somewhere in South East Asia to check out what real bicycle culture is about……..and what did we find. The bicycle rocks the majority world and is here to stay as a super transport solution. I got plenty more pics and plenty more experiences to share but that’ll have to wait to another day as the surf calls.

So it was the day of the Christmas Pageant. I was up till very very late in the night finishing an honours thesis and then had an early shift at work. But that didn’t stop me sneaking out to catch the bike float in all its glory doing the car free city streets proud. Considering it was a spur of the moment example of a fond brother of mines motivation, it was a glorious sight to see.

Spinning out is born…

November 22, 2010

Word is out, a fine lady and a man with a camera have been sniffing around bush and backyard to find juicy stories to steer a TV program on how damn great Australia’s developing cycling culture is. I played ‘the assistant fixer’ for a couple of little film sessions they were shooting for the taster. Special thanks to Andy and mates for turning up and puttin on some fine mountain bike action. They also checked out the Bike Kitchen guys in action down the backyard and were so impressed with the bike egg that they stole it for their film set.

The HBK Bike Egg is Born…

November 21, 2010

SO the Hobart Bike Kitchen now has a bike egg. Dunno how it came into existence but all I remember was mentioning to Sam that the backyard was getting out of control and he needed to tidy it up a bit as I was expecting visitors. The next morning I turned up, the yard was unchanged, but there, hanging from the branch of a tree was an art installation of great powers. The thing is in high demand and may be prayed to in the future. Bikes meet art…. hell yeah. Read the rest of this entry »

Bike Radio?

November 16, 2010

About a month ago was ride to work day and I’d forgotten to give a radio station I’d never heard of a plug because they called me up and had a good ol chat about the next days events and other cycling issues. I’d say give em a call if you want to talk bike stuff outside the usual media outlets.

Check out the audio here: http://www.ultra106five.com.au/listenagain.php?pg=1314 . Always important to keep a good record of what sort of media coverage goes down around cycling related events.
