Hobart Bike Cage Under Construction in Argyle St Carpark
April 21, 2010
While there is no official word about it, about 2 years ago an article featured in the Mercury Newspaper featuring a girl known as ‘bicycle bec’ launching a new secure bike parking cage the council was going to build. 2 years later this cage has become a reality and I checked out what was happening and it looks very promising. As far as the councils provision of bike parking goes, they certainly have a lot of potential, but it will be interesting to see if enough is provided to stem the number of bikes chained to sign posts and fences around the city due to no reasonable alternative.
Information on bike parking in Hobart can be found at: http://www.hobartcity.com.au/content/InternetWebsite/Transport/Parking_in_Hobart/Bicycle_Parking.aspx
While there is no official information available on the cage, I believe it is going to be accessed through a swipe card system and will have lockers available for members. Watch this space…

It might have been quicker and cheaper to have imported this good idea from Brisbane
