Sandy Bay Rd Improvements
November 15, 2009

HTH were very happy to see witches hats and fresh concrete being poured on Sandy Bay Rd last week as the Hobart City Council fixed up a hole that has been forcing riders out into the middle of the road if they know about it and giving them a rude jolt if they don’t. We wrote to the HCC a little more than a month ago and we are impressed with the speed at which they got round to fixing the hole.

We gave the new patch of concrete a test run with a cargo cycle fully laden with groceries and it didn’t jolt at all.

MONA FOMA makes bike music
November 15, 2009

HTH joined around 30 cyclists for a ride down Mt Wellington on Saturday 14th November for the launch of the MONA FOMA festival. The festival will run from Jan 8th to 24th and will feature a pedal powered production called ‘Pursuit’. The audience will apparently sit in the centre of bikes whizzing around in a circle making different sounds and there will be ‘doppler effects’ which is another name for sophisticated surround sound. While art isnt really our speciality at the HTH HQ, we have heard whispers that the Tassie Arts scene is going to invest in a mini share bike system pretty soon to help art lovers get from gallery to gallery.

The weather was cold drizzly and the pace down the mountain was quite gentle so we unfortunately didn’t have time to stick around for the end session at salamanca where the bike bell symphony was going to happen. We rung our bells all the way down the mountain however and appreciated the free lift up and the t-shirts. Anyone interested in converting their bikes to musical instruments on wheels should contact Salamanca Arts Centre.
